Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced MEP Project Manager to lead the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) aspects of complex construction projects from design development through construction, testing, commissioning, and final handover.

The MEP Project Manager will serve as a key interface between the client, design consultants, contractors, subcontractors, vendors, commissioning teams, and other project stakeholders. This role requires strong technical MEP knowledge combined with project management, design coordination, commercial awareness, and the ability to drive decisions across multiple disciplines.

Key Responsibilities

Design Management & Coordination

  • Lead MEP design management and consultant coordination from concept design through detailed design, tender documentation, and construction documentation.
  • Consolidate client and stakeholder requirements to finalize project briefs and coordinate with the project team in the development of preliminary and detailed designs.
  • Manage design interfaces between MEP systems and architectural, structural, civil, and other project disciplines.
  • Identify and resolve design clashes, scope gaps, coordination issues, and technical dependencies.
  • Monitor consultant deliverables and design schedules to ensure timely submissions in accordance with project milestones.
  • Review revised design packages to confirm that previous client and stakeholder comments have been appropriately incorporated.
  • Evaluate design options, provide technical recommendations to the client, and lead design review and decision-making workshops.
  • Drive value engineering, constructability reviews, installation strategy discussions, and opportunities for design optimization.

Commercial & Programme Management

  • Monitor and manage the MEP budget, including cost impacts, variations, design changes, and change control.
  • Support commercial evaluations relating to MEP packages, equipment, systems, and proposed design modifications.
  • Lead long-lead equipment and procurement planning to ensure MEP equipment and packages are aligned with the overall construction programme.
  • Manage design changes arising from site conditions, budget adjustments, client requests, or other project requirements.
  • Assess and communicate the cost, schedule, procurement, and construction implications of proposed changes.
  • Coordinate with planning and project teams to align MEP milestones with construction progress, system energization, phased turnover, and client operational requirements.

Stakeholder, Interface & Regulatory Management

  • Serve as the primary MEP liaison between the client, consultants, engineers, contractors, subcontractors, vendors, commissioning agents, and other project stakeholders.
  • Facilitate communication and issue resolution across technical and non-technical project teams.
  • Coordinate with commissioning agents and client representatives regarding testing sequences, witness inspections, hold points, system acceptance, and issue resolution.
  • Develop and implement strategies for regulatory approvals, permitting, and authority requirements.
  • Ensure MEP design and installation activities comply with applicable codes, standards, authority requirements, permits, and project specifications.

Construction, Testing, Commissioning & Handover

  • Review and validate MEP design and construction issues and develop practical alternative solutions where required.
  • Oversee construction-stage MEP activities to ensure compliance with approved designs, specifications, quality standards, safety requirements, programme objectives, and installation standards.
  • Monitor contractor performance and support the resolution of technical, interface, and installation issues during construction.
  • Lead and coordinate MEP testing and commissioning activities.
  • Manage witness inspections, testing sequences, hold points, defect resolution, and system acceptance.
  • Coordinate system energization and integration with the overall construction and operational programme.
  • Manage MEP completion and handover activities, including phased turnover, closeout documentation, testing and commissioning records, outstanding issue resolution, and client operational readiness.

You should have:

  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, building services, and associated MEP systems.
  • Experience managing MEP design development, coordination, construction, testing, commissioning, and handover.
  • Strong understanding of multidisciplinary design interfaces and construction sequencing.
  • Experience coordinating consultants, contractors, subcontractors, vendors, commissioning agents, and client stakeholders.
  • Commercial awareness, including budget management, change control, procurement, and evaluation of cost and programme impacts.
  • Experience with long-lead MEP equipment and procurement planning.
  • Strong understanding of constructability, value engineering, installation methodology, and commissioning requirements.
  • Knowledge of applicable building codes, regulatory requirements, permitting processes, and authority approvals.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, stakeholder management, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to identify technical issues, evaluate alternatives, and drive decisions through to resolution.
